How to prepare for your first recording session
2026-10-09
Finish the decisions you can finish at home
- Lyrics written down, including the ad-libs you actually want.
- A guide track or beat, labelled, at the tempo you will sing.
- The key, and the reference song if you are covering one.
- Who is playing, and who is only listening.
Bring files, not surprises
Ask which session software the room uses, but also bring a simple WAV or MP3 guide. Stems are better if you have them. Tell the enquiry if you need a headphone mix for a singer who records to a beat.
Leave time for the room
The first half hour is often setup, not the final take. If you book the shortest slot, say so, and do not expect a mix in the same hour unless the studio has agreed to that.
What StudioKhoj will and will not invent
A city page on StudioKhoj lists named rooms that came from a public source. If a city has no named studio, the page stays out of Google rather than being filled with a generic recording-studio row. A profile does not gain a drum kit, a vocal booth, a Dolby room, or a street pin because those things are common. They appear only when that studio’s own site or another public source said so.
Prices work the same way. StudioKhoj does not publish a national hourly rate, a city average, or a starting-from figure made up to rank for a price search. If a studio printed a number on its own site, the profile may mention that it was seen, and it will say the figure was not reconfirmed as a partner rate. The number you can book against is the one in the reply to your enquiry.
The phone and WhatsApp button on every page reach StudioKhoj on +91 79865 77067. They are not a direct studio booking line. The studio’s own number is not printed. Sending the short form — artist name, date, and your phone — opens a WhatsApp draft. You still tap Send. A reply is not a hold until you accept the terms.
How to use the city pages
Arrive with the song already learned. Lyrics on a phone, a reference mix, and a beat in a file the studio can open will save more money than hunting for a cheaper room. Tuning, arrangement arguments, and missing lyrics are what turn a two-hour vocal into a five-hour day.
Bring the files in a common format and a second copy. Decide who may approve a take before you start, so the engineer is not waiting on a group chat. If you need headphones for three people, say so. The profile will not guess the headphone count.
Sleep, water, and a realistic hour count matter more than a new plugin. If you have never recorded, say that. A first session is allowed to be simple: one song, one vocal, a rough balance to take home. Mastering can be a later enquiry. Do not pay for a full finish you have not heard yet.
- Lyrics, a reference, and a beat, in a file the room can open.
- Agree who says yes to a take.
- Leave mastering for a second conversation if this is your first hour in a studio.
Start with the city you will actually travel to. Recording studios in Mumbai, recording studios in Delhi, recording studios in Bengaluru, recording studios in Hyderabad, recording studios in Chennai, recording studios in Kolkata, recording studios in Pune, and recording studios in Ahmedabad are the larger lists. In the north, recording studios in Chandigarh, recording studios in Mohali, recording studios in Panchkula, and recording studios in Zirakpur sit next to each other because artists cross the Tricity in one session. Punjab hubs such as Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Patiala are separate pages, not folded into Chandigarh.
Open the studio by name after the city page. The profile repeats the area that is already on file, the services that were published, and a plain answer on price and hours: rates are shared on enquiry, and hours are confirmed when you enquire unless a public source already printed them. Compare every other studio linked from that city, not a short sample. Then send one enquiry with the date, the headcount, and whether you need a vocal hour, a song, or a band rehearsal.
